Mechatronics Robot Project

Robot Project

The objective of this project was to create an automated mobile robot that can autonomously navigate through a wall defined course while detecting the number of red and blue strips of floor that it crosses.  Upon exiting the course, the robot was to detect an IR Beacon frequency and navigate to that position to park on the corresponding color of the highest number of colored strips counted (either red or blue).  The robot must also be able to respond instantly to a wall collision, backing off immediately. Watch the video for a complete demonstration.

This was a very collaborative project and deeply enhanced my abilities to come together with a group of individuals and effectively tackle individual problems. I gained a broad understanding of microcontrollers, building circuits, retrieving analog and digital information from sensors, C++ coding, organizing code structure in a state machine manner,  and using Zeigler-Nichols method for tuning PID controllers. Virtually everything within this project was new information for me and was a large learning process.
